Timothy Leary Interviews Billy Idol :: CYBERPUNK

Timothy Leary interviews Billy Idol on ABC In Concert from 1993 as part of promoting Idol's Cyberpunk album. Timothy Leary and Billy Idol see "cyber" as a way for people to know significantly more about how the world works, and then later subvert oppression.

Billy Idol discusses a small amount of the technology behind the Cyberpunk album. He notes about how it was completely produced on a computer. Timothy Leary sees Billy as "Creating his own reality."

Also included in the video below are The Ramones and Television and Joey Ramone is the moderator.

WATCH or DOWNLOAD it here (via archive.org) 23 min video off tape, it's a little screwed up, probably watched too much before they ripped it. Also the commercials are dead air.

Jean Tinguely: Kinetic Machines

Jean Tinguely was a Swiss painter and sculptor. He is best known for his sculptural machines or kinetic art, known as metamechanics. Tinguely's art satirized the mindless overproduction of material goods in advanced industrial society. His sculptures communicate through their noisy and multifaceted movements where both the functions as well as the movements become art.

Video: Directed by Hiroshi Teshigahara.

Magnolia clock by Jesper Norda

"This video consists of all words in the script for the film Magnolia by PT Anderson (1999). I've tried to make versions of this idea with other manuscripts, but this particular script works great, it is rich in directors instructions, technical and artistic directions, while all the dialogue is carefully printed. The words line up one by one, second by second. A visual indicator of time: a clock."-- Jesper Norda

This is an excerpt, the 1st hour of a total length of 11 hours and 17 minutes.

(The full hour video is only around 15 MB in size)

Sun Ra: Brother From Another Planet

Full documentary from the BBC4

Sun Ra was born on the planet Saturn some time ago. The best accounts agree that he emerged on Earth as Herman Blount, born in Birmingham, Alabama in 1914, although Sun Ra himself always denied that Blount was his surname. He returned to Saturn in 1993 after creating a stunningly variegated and beautiful assemblage of earthly and interplanetary music, most notably with his fervently loyal Arkestra.

Sun Ra and his Arkestra were the subject of a few documentary films, notably Robert Mugge's 'A Joyful Noise' (1980), which interspersed performances and rehearsals with Sun Ra's commentary on various subjects ranging from today's youth to his own place in the cosmos.

Today's documentary, Don Letts' 'Sun Ra, Brother From Another Planet' from 2005, reuses some of Mugge's material and includes some additional interviews.

BEAST (expired magazine)

“BEAST is the only true inspiration in the worldwide boring web. Beast is the fusion between print and web. BEAST is a magazine, a book, a lifestyle, an insult, a religion. BEAST is overrated and undervalued. BEAST is good, bad and ugly. BEAST is the bible of inspiration. BEAST is the end of the web. BEAST is for frustrated and bored web/print designers out there who work in small, dark offices and limit their life in totally overrated advertising / media agencies. Beast is against boring design, against everyday design that penetrates our precious life. Of course. BEAST is also a good read for uncreative creative directors.”
